Honda Activa 7G : The college parking lot had tales marketing departments spend millions attempting to comprehend.

Five years ago, those spaces were filled by a jumble of entry-level motorcycles and aging scooters. “I think the tectonic plates have really moved in a big way,” he said.

When I was touring three college campuses in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune in the previous month, one trend could have been seen as clear as floor than the other – the notable female contingent of students riding scooters to college, with Honda Activa at the vanguard by quiet and wide margin.

With the Activa 7G in the works due for a release next quarter, Honda will only further fortify this bonhomie with its female riders.

According to dealers, industry sources and the students themselves, the 7G seems finely tuned to cater to the needs of this section without compromising on its mass appeal that has made the Activa India’s highest selling two-wheeler for more than a decade.

Honda Activa 7G The Making of the Modern Cowboy

The evolution of the Activa over the years has been quite a comparison. Now 25 million Scrubbys (a number that is still increasing) later, the humble little skateboard, once a practical alternative to a motorbike, has become a cult in the world of alternative sports.

The new 7G is the biggest change in the scooter’s history, and looks at aspects that are aimed more at getting younger riders excited than purely performance for performance’s sake.

“Each generation of Activa has had its own character,” said Rajesh Kumar, a Honda dealer in South Delhi I’ve known for years.

The 7G, he says, seems tailor-made for today’s college-goers—it’s lighter, more tech-friendly, and has that sex appeal that young Indians are now demanding, without compromising on the dependability the Activa is synonymous with.

Sources in Honda’s dealer network have revealed the 7G will lose almost 2 kg from the old model’s kerb weight, which will be reduced to about 105 kg.

That weight loss, achieved through re-designed frame and lighter bodywork, is particularly significant for smaller riders as the bike is even more manageable.

Honda Activa 7G What Young Women Want

While on campus I was able to interview dozens of current Activa owners about what attracted them to the Activa and their expectations of the next generation.

“My parents were not initially comfortable with me having a two-wheeler, but they trust the Activa brand,” said Priya Sharma, a 20-year-old psychology student in Delhi University who was on one of the new scooters.

It’s not as threatening as a motorbike, but it’s not an ‘all-girlie’ scooter either – it’s just all about practicality and reliability.”)

This was a refrain I heard often. Young girls like the gender-agnostic style of the Activa that doesn’t try too hard with its “feminine” design.

Instead it provides something even more desirable: considered features that solve real-world problems.

“I can keep my helmet under the seat, it has phone charging and it’s good for moving through traffic,” said Aisha Patel, a commerce student in Mumbai.

“When you’re running from class to class and from part-time jobs and social engagements, it’s the little things that mean the most.”

Honda Activa 7G The Lure of the 7G for College Students

And from details gleamed from dealer previews and Honda’s own teasers, it seems like the 7G will build off these practical reasons for purchasing while adding things that should appeal to a more youthful market.

Refined Ergonomics

The new model has shorter handle bars and a narrower front profile, so is more manageable for riders with smaller frames.

At a dealer preview in Pune, I got to sit on a pre-production model, and it’s evident at the get-go – thanks to the new floorboard design that places your feet in a more comfortable position, while the seat height stays accessible (about 765mm).

Tech Integration

For the college market, the new tech package is probably the best all-around addition.

The 7G will come with Honda’s first ever, full digital cluster on any of the Activa line up, which include Bluetooth connectivity, that’ll help the rider with turn-by-turn navigation or taking calls and messages along with controlling your music.

“My current Activa works fine, but I have to keep stopping and looking at my phone for directions,” said Kritika Mehta, a design student I met at a campus cafe in Mumbai.

“If we could have navigation on the console, that would completely change the game for me.

Honda Activa 7G Improved Efficiency

With fuel costs making a big dent in students’ bank balances, the 7G’s increased efficiency is a very enticing upgrade.

Honda will offer the updated 110cc mill with more advanced features and will warrant a 15% increase in fuel economy or upwards of 65 kmpl when the model goes on sale.

But an efficient “grub” is a boon to students like Neha Singh, who rides 12 kilometers to and from college every day in Pune.

“My fueling up now is twice a week. If the new model can extend that to weekly, that’s money I can spend elsewhere.”

Enhanced Safety Features

The 7G also adds a few safety features that make the bike more appealing to women riders and perhaps their worried parents.

The linked-brake system, which joins the front and rear brakes in order to make sudden stops more predictable, gets some fine tuning, emergency stop signals flash the hazard lights under heavy braking, and a side-stand engine inhibitor prevents the scooter from lurching while the stand is down.

“My father gets anxious when I stay out late after evening classes,” said Tanvi Gupta, a third-year science student.

“Things like better lighting and the new ‘location share’ feature in the Honda app would have been things to bring him peace of mind.”

Transcending Gender: For All Genders In conclusion, enclosed is an image of the offspring of the living room child aged 7-9 years.

The 7G appears to be well tailored to female college students, but its application is not restricted by gender. The pragmatic advantages that make it attainable for shorter riders are advantageous for all users.

Rohan Shah, a 19-year-old engineering student in the western Indian city of Pune, refused offerings of more masculine motorcycles and instead opted for an Activa.

“My buddies busted my chops over not getting a sport bike, but an Activa just makes so much more sense for campus. I can bring my laptop and some books and still stop for groceries on the way home.”

It is this practical versatility that perhaps explains why dealer pre-registration interest is already strong across all demographics, despite it still not out officially on the market.

At Mumbai’s Shivam Honda, the dealer said almost 40% of pre-launch queries were from students, mostly college-goers, who are divided 50:50 between men and women.

Honda Activa 7G Pricing and Availability

Honda is yet to reveal the pricing, but the low-down from the dealers is that the 7G will be priced at around ₹77,000 for the standard version with prices stretching to approximately ₹85,000 for the top-spec model (ex-showroom).

That’s only a ₹3,000-5,000 bump over the existing model (and for its target market, an impressive but not outrageous jump).

“Lots of my students select the Activa, as it has great resale value,” said Deepak Sharma, who operates a driving school near a large university campus.

“They know they can use it for their college years and still get a good resale price when they graduate and end up perhaps moving to a different city for work.”

The 7G is planned for release just ahead of the start of the new academic year — what better moment to attract the interest of incoming freshmen and their parents?

Honda Activa 7G The Future of Campus Mobility

Because student housing has become more and more dispersed from the center of college campuses, student transportation is more important than ever.

The Activa 7G appears to be well suited for this role – not too fancy for parents to pass off, trendy to impress college-goers, and dependable enough to fare their daily drives.

“I can see the shift in patterns every academic year,” said a parking attendant with a large Mumbai college who has worked there for more than a decade.

“They used to come on scooters, more scooter people now, and especially girls, who used to travel public transportation or ask for a ride. Their entire college experience is changed by the independence a scooter offers.”

For Honda, this burgeoning bond with the next generation of riders is not only sales here and now, but a possible lifetime of brand loyalty.

When an Activa rider wants to graduate to a sedan or a hatchback – City or Civic are common names being thrown around – the choice would most likely be a Honda.
